I’m training to become a pilot and have a dream of flying cross-country (as in like SF to Boston). Whats the best GA aircraft under $100k…
Answer by Thomas Zerbarini:
I'd recommend a Cessna 172 or a Piper PA28-181.
What a fantastic dream and I'd encourage you to see it through. I flew across country in a Cessna 172 from Palo Alto, CA to Farmingdale, NY. I flew with a friend that just purchased the airplane and we had a blast.
To avoid the high terrain we flew the southern route over the desserts and up through the mid section of the country. We met so many people and saw so many fantastic sights.
We did it in the middle of the summer so it was hot! Watch out for that pressure altitude in the summer months too.
We didn't have any mechanical issues ourselves, yet we were sure to have a plan if if we did have any mechanicals. We stuck to pilotage and dead reckoning for the most part and had a small survival kit in case we had to land off airport.
I'm certain you'll have a great time when you complete your cross-country. Be sure to document it and share with your friends.
